Title: | TRANSPORTATION OF CO2 CONTAMINATED NATURAL GAS USING GAS HYDRATES | Authors: | NIRANJAN KUMAR LOGANATHAN | Keywords: | Gas hydrates, Natural gas transport, Carbon dioxide, Methane, Unstirred tank reactor, Tetrahydrofuran | Issue Date: | 7-Jun-2019 | Citation: | NIRANJAN KUMAR LOGANATHAN (2019-06-07). TRANSPORTATION OF CO2 CONTAMINATED NATURAL GAS USING GAS HYDRATES. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Many gas fields are demonetized due to high levels of CO2 in the natural gas reservoir. SNG technology provides a potential method to directly transport CO2-containing natural gas in the form of gas hydrates. We examined the hydrate formation for 24% CO2/76% CH4 mixture in the presence of stoichiometric tetrahydrofuran in an unstirred tank reactor. The presence of 24% CO2 exhibited two contrasting kinetic behaviors for CO2/CH4/THF hydrate formation. Considering only the high-kinetics cases, the hydrate formation kinetics was significantly enhanced by increasing the experimental pressure. The increase of experimental temperature at 7.0 MPa reduced the gas uptake by around 40%. The addition of 100 ppm sodium dodecyl sulfate and applying a hybrid formation method we achieved rapid hydrate formation. The simplicity of this process and the enhanced kinetics at room temperature could develop an economical transport method for CO2-containing natural gas. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/158086 |
