Abstract: Wireless sensor networks have gained importance in civil and military applications. Power management is a crucial problem in sensor networks since sensors usually have limited battery life. In this project we try to coordinate sensors to track moving targets while minimizing power and communication usage. We studied a dynamic power management algorithm which can effectively reduce system power consumption while at the same time meet some performance requirement. We also studied several localization methods based on Cricket localization system. Target detecting with power management was implemented and tested using the Crossbow MICA 2 mote platform. Our experimental results show that the power management algorithm has good performance.
