Abstract: The kinetics of metal cation-induced aquation of the cis-[Co en2 (RNH2)x]2+ cations, where en is ethylenediamine, R is H, He, Et, Pr n , and Pri and X is Cl or Br, have been studied spectruphotometrioally in aqueous solution over a range of temperatures. The metal cations(H) used are Ag(I), Zn(II) and Cd(II). The results are discussed with a tentatively proposed mechanism involving an activated complex Co-X-M, which yields the aqua-product by a unimolecular aquation.
