Abstract: The main purpose of this dissertation is to highlight the principles underlying a decision-making methodology known as the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) developed by Professor Thomas L. Saaty. In addition, this methodology is being studied in the area of tender evaluation within the context of the construction industry. A study to illustrate the application as well as the versatile nature of the AHP method is presented in this dissertation. The decision making process in the evaluation of design and build tender must begin with the definition of the main selection criteria. The goal of the decision process is to select the tenderer objectively. The main selection criteria will form the first level of the hierarchy process. This AHP approach for the evaluation of design and build proposals is used so as, to minimize the subjectivity of selection.
