THE SEX EXPRESSION OF MALLOTUS PANICULATUS (LMK) M.A.

Abstract

Thirty-four trees of Mallotus paniculatus were sampled from Singapore and Johor (Malaysia) and studied to determine the sex expression of this species in an aseasonal climate. The breeding system of this species was also looked into to ascertain whether this species exhibits inbreeding, outbreeding, or a mixture of the two modes. Both vegetative and reproductive characters were studied and correlated to the sex expression of the plants in an attempt to determine if secondary sex characters . indicative of differential resource allocation, were present.
