Title: | METABOLOMIC STUDIES OF HEART DISEASE, CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE AND HUMAN CANCER CELL LINE | Authors: | YIN XUEJIAO | Keywords: | Metabolomics, Heart disease, Chronic Kidney Disease, Cancer, Untargeted, LC-MS | Issue Date: | 7-Aug-2017 | Citation: | YIN XUEJIAO (2017-08-07). METABOLOMIC STUDIES OF HEART DISEASE, CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE AND HUMAN CANCER CELL LINE. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Metabolomics is an “omics” science used for biomarkers discovery or therapeutic targeted pathways related to diseases. In this thesis, first we employed metallomics and untargeted metabolomics approaches to identify changes in metabolites and metals, suggests possible alterations in cell membrane permeability and rigidity in ACS patients. Secondly, MS-based metabolomics revealed alterations in uremic toxins, amino acids, glucose and ceramides in CKD patients, indicating a state of oxidative stress, inflammation and acidosis in the pathophysiology of CKD. Lastly, FK866 and GMX1778 inhibition on NAMPT shows different metabolic changes in prostate cancer cell, demonstrating metabolomics is a useful tool in pharmacological studies. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/139068 |
