Pernicious vomiting following an antecedent viral infection is an early and characteristic symptom of Reye's Syndrome while seizures only occur in severe cases. Seizures, either during or following a viral infection, is the commonest presenting symptom of the Singapore Syndrome while severe vomiting is uncommon. The latter type of presentation has often led to an initial diagnosis of febrile convulsions, delayed treatment and high morbidity.
