dc.description.abstractThis report describes two diabetic patients who presented with severe lactic acidosis. Both patients had been taking a medicine (phenformin) which they had obtained from China, and which has been withdrawn from Singapore since 1977. Both cases were admitted with severe metabolic acidosis and were treated with intravenous sodium bicarbonate and intensive care support with unsuccessful outcomes.
