A finite element-boundary integral method with higher-order element (FEBI-HOE) code has been developed at Temasek Laboratories @ NUS for modeling interior scattering from 3-D cavities with complex terminations. In this paper, we present a small-grained parallelization of the FEBI-HOE code to decrease the execution time and to enhance its capability in simulating very large cavity models. To make implementation simpler, we only focus on the computationally intensive spots of the serial code: 1) frontal method solution of the FE elemental matrix equation and 2) LU factorization solution of the BI matrix equation. This strategy of parallelization can provide good scalability and working load balance without significant modifications of the rest of the code. To demonstrate the parallel performance, cavity models of different size have been simulated on different parallel platforms. ©2009 IEEE.
