Abstract: The multiple scattering of exciton-polaritons by a static disorder in planar microcavities results in their weak localization, characterized by a pronounced backscattering signal. This effect is associated with an enhanced optical spin Hall effect leading to the appearance of ballistic spin currents in the plane of the cavity. We demonstrate experimentally and theoretically the coexistence of these two mesoscopic effects and interplay between them. © 2009 The American Physical Society.
