Microstructures of La-Cu-Ni-Al alloys of rod samples with 12mm diameter prepared by copper mould casting along La86-x[Cu0.5Ni0.5]xAl14 compositional line were studied by scanning electronic microscope (SEM) observation, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Glassy rod with diameter of 12mm can be formed by copper mould casting. The alloy has a composition near to La62[Cu0.5Ni0.5]24Al14, and has a very narrow supercooled liquid region, δTx=29K, (δTx=Tx-Tg, where Tx is the onset crystallisation temperature and Tg is glass transition temperature). © 2003 Elsevier B.V.
