A frequency selective surface (FSS) square loop array was developed on a silicon substrate and its optically-controlled characteristics were examined by Floquet modal analysis. The spectral response of the transmission and reflection characteristics of the array showed that the transmitted and reflected fields can be attenuated or enhanced by optical illumination. By employing high speed optical pulses, FSS structures can be used as dynamically-changing electromagnetic radiated wave filters.
