This paper presents on the results of propagation measurements conducted at 27.4 GHz in Singapore to investigate the performance of local multipoint distribution service (LMDS). LMDS has been widely recognized as an effective last mile solution to provide broadband wireless access to residential customers and businesses, and systems are presently under development. Successful deployment of LMDS services requires thorough understanding of the effects of propagation at millimeter wave bands in a fixed cellular environment. The measurements provide various characteristics on excess path loss, average delay and delay spread, which give valuable insight into the wideband nature of the propagation channel. Based on these measurements a mathematical tapped delay line channel model was then developed that captures the time varying dispersive channel behavior more realistically.
