Abstract: The impedance characteristics of an L-shaped wire monopole antenna are experimentally investigated. The effect of different ratios of the horizontal arm length to the height of the L-shaped monopole on the impedance characteristics is discussed. The investigation demonstrates how a monopole with an overall quarter-wavelength converts to a low-profile small inverted-L antenna (ILA). It also shows that a height of approximately 10% operating wavelength is a critical condition.
