dc.description.abstractDesign of thin wideband planar absorbers using dynamic differential evolution (DDE) and real electromagnetic composite materials is presented in this paper. The distinctive contributions include the first application of DDE to design thin wideband absorbers, a simple regularization technique to absorb constraints arising from fabrication and ultimate deployment, and usage of in-house developed real electromagnetic composite materials for absorbers. The effect of thickness and configuration complexity has been numerically investigated to confirm the existence of optimal while non-unique configuration. A four-layer planar absorber whose desirable absorption band covers 69.29% of the concerned frequency band has been successfully designed. © 2011 IEEE.
