Objective: By mapping specific expression of RIM3γ mRNA in the central nervous system and inhibitory neurons, we probed into physiological function of RIM3γ. Methods: Adult Wistar rats were used in the present study. The brain and cervical enlargement of the spinal cords of the adult Wistar rats were dissected. Using In situ hybridization and double labeled fluorescence assay, we demonstrated the specific expression of RIM3γ mRNA in the central nervous system and inhibitory neurons. Results: RIM3γ mRNA was preferentially expressed in lateral posterior thalamic, mitral layer of the main olfactory bulb, layers II-IV of somatosensory cortex, the granula layer of the cerebellum and the superficial layers of the spinal cord dorsal horn. Double labeled fluorescence assay showed the expression of RIM3γ in some inhibitory neurons of the cortex, the spinal cord and the cerebellum of adult Wistar rats. Conclusion: Specific expression of RIM3γ mRNA in the CNS of rats provides the basis for further exploring physiological function of RIM3γ.
