Abstract: Brachydanio rerio, the zebra danio and the leopard danio, exhibit striped and spotted body pigmentation patterns, respectively. These two danios breed readily with each other, and the progeny are fertile. Matings between the two danios and their progeny indicate that the inheritance of body pigmentation pattern is determined by a single autosomal locus, with the gene for striped pigmentation pattern, S, being dominant to the spotted allele, s.
