Abstract: We consider two sine-lattice models which support topological solitary waves (kinks). In the continuum limit the models are similar to the integrable sine-Gordon equation. In the weak discrete regime, however, the kinks in the sine-lattices are found to possess a low-frequency internal shape mode. It is demonstrated that such shape modes can also give rise to remarkable resonance phenomena in kink-antikink collisions in the discrete sine-lattice models. We highlight some new features (such as one-bounce resonances) in the present resonance structures. Copyright © 1997 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
