A new species of xanthid crab of the genus Paramedaeus Guinot, 1967, is described, figured and named in honour of Professor Jacques Forest having become an octogenarian. The new species is closely allied to Paramedaeus planifrons (Sakai, 1965) but differs markedly in leg and carapace features. Notes on two other xanthid species, Paramedaeus simplex (A. Milne-Edwards, 1873) and Metaxanthops acutus Serène, 1984, from New Caledonia are also provided.
