Title: | Study on multi-lingual LZ77 and LZ78 text compression | Authors: | Chi, Chi-Hung | Issue Date: | 1998 | Citation: | Chi, Chi-Hung (1998). Study on multi-lingual LZ77 and LZ78 text compression. Data Compression Conference Proceedings : 533-. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The effectiveness of multi-lingual character sampling on Lempel-Ziv (LZ) compression algorithms is studied. LZSS and LZW algorithms are chosen to represent LZ77 and LZ78 compression, respectively. They are modified to adapt the characteristics of non-English information such as Chinese. It is shown that the Chinese LZW compression outperforms the original one by a larger percentage than the Chinese LZSS compression does. CLZW also performs better than CLZSS. This can be explained by two factors: the overall dictionary size and the constraints in each of the algorithms. | Source Title: | Data Compression Conference Proceedings | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/99598 | ISSN: | 10680314 |
