Abstract: The cluster Bethe lattice method (CBLM) has been extended to the study of the surface termination of the ordered phase and the surface segregation of the disordered phase of AuCu3(1 0 0). It was found that the ordered phase is terminated by a layer containing both Au and Cu. Above the order-disorder transition temperature, the order parallel to the surface is lost while it is possible that the concentration profile perpendicular to the surface is maintained for at least the top two layers. © 1991.
