Abstract: The effect of silver halide doping on the thermal, mechanical and electrical properties of a series of fast ion conducting AgX:Ag2O:MoO3:P2O5 (X = I, Br, Cl) glasses has been investigated. Concentration of Ag+ and X- ions, average inter-halogen ion distance and oxygen packing density as derived from density and composition data have been tabulated. The Tg and microhardness showed small differences for systems containing the same amount of AgX. However, for the same AgX concentration, σAgI>σAgBr>σAgCl . Arrhenius plots for conductivity of various glasses yielded the activation energy. The applicability of the recently proposed weak electrolyte theory and structural models for conduction mechanisms of charge carriers have also been attempted and discussed with references to the present system. © 1988.
