Abstract: We study heat and particle transport in a classical disordered, one-dimensional, hard-point gas model. We provide convincing numerical evidence that the figure of merit ZT diverges as a power law with the average particle number in the chain. This quite surprising result appears to be related to the ergodic and mixing properties of the system and it is independent of the mass ratio. © 2009 IOP Publishing Ltd.
