Abstract: The molecular-ladder-structured, one-dimensional Zn-(4,4′- bipyridylethylene) coordination polymer 1 undergoes [2+2] photochemical cycloaddition across the rails to form 2 in up to 100% yield, accompanied by a single-crystal to single-crystal transformation (Chemical Equation Presented). © 2005 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
