Abstract: Bis(trifluoromethyl)nitroxyl undergoes substitution reactions with (C6F5)3-nP(CN)n (where n = 1, 2, 3) to afford (CF3)2NO(C6F5)3-nP(CN)n-1 respectively, together with the hitherto unreported (CF3)2NOCN. The latter oxidises hydrogen chloride to give N,N-bis(trifluoromethyl)hydroxylamine, chlorine and paracyanogen. © 1990.
