ScholarBank@NUS Repository. https://doi.org/10.1021/ma0509098 | Abstract: | The synthesis of cross-linked polystyrene (PS) hollow nanospheres (HN) by ultraviolet treatment of the SiO 2-g-PS-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) core-shell hybrids was investigated. The cross-linked PS hollow nanospheres remain unagglomerated and stable in organic solvents, such as tetrahydrofuran (THF). The cleaved PS and PS-b-PMMA from the silica surfaces were characterized by gel-permeation chromatography (GPC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. It was concluded that the solvent-resistant PS hollow nanospheres are potentially useful in applications such as controlled release and enzyme immobilization and as nanoreactors. | Source Title: | Macromolecules | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/89904 | ISSN: | 00249297 | DOI: | 10.1021/ma0509098 |
