Abstract: To dry chemically bound moisture of AlF3 · 3H2O efficiently and with less hydrolyzation, the thermal decomposition mechanism and kinetics of AlF3 · 3H2O were established by the thermo-gravimetric technique. The results indicated that the thermal decomposition process of AlF3·3H2O consisted of two stages: a rapid dehydration stage and a combined dehydration and hydrolysis stage. The kinetic models for these two subprocesses obtained in this work are f(α) = 1.5(1 - α)4/3[(1 - α)-1/3 -1]-1 and f(α) = 1.5(1- α)2/3 [(1 + α)1/3-1]-1 respectively.
