Abstract: This research compares the traffic operations in a small network of two intersections when the signal timing plans were calculated or controlled by TRANSYT and SCATS respectively, by means of microscopic traffic simulations using PARAMICS. The three different time varying OD matrices with fluctuating traffic volume have been used in the simulation experiment. The results of our simulation evaluation have shown that dynamic TRANSYT control appears better in more cases than SCATS-based control, except in handling the relatively high fluctuation in OD in the hypothetical network.
