Abstract: This review focuses on recent developments in gel-based proteomics techniques. By combining traditional sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and two-dimensional gel electrophoretic techniques with recent advances in protein labeling using different classes of molecules (i.e., fluorescent dyes, chemical probes, radioisotopes), new technologies have been developed that allow for high-throughput studies of proteins at the whole-proteome scale. © 2004 Humana Press Inc.
