Abstract: Conjugated azulene-thiophene copolymers with intact azulene units in the polymer chain were prepared. The molecular structures of the polymers were confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and elemental analysis. The copolymers demonstrated reversible optical and electronic properties upon protonation and deprotonation due to the formation of azulenium radical cations.
