Abstract: Complexes containing the methylxanthine ligands, 1-methyl, 3-methyl, 7-methyl, 8-methyl and 9-methylxanthine have been prepared, with the platinum metals platinum(II), rhodium(III) and palladium(II). The resulting complexes are characterised using infrared spectroscopy, ESCA and thermal analysis. Coordination through the ring nitrogen and the exocyclic oxygens, O(2) and O(6), is demonstrated. © 1985.
