Abstract: IR and Raman spectra as well as dipole moments of the title compounds in solution are reported. Analysis of the dielectric data shows that, at 25°C, the compounds in the series exist as rotameric mixtures in benzene solution containing 84, 72 and 67% respectively of the gauche rotamer. The experimentally derived values of the gauche/trans population quotients are compared with values predicted by semiempirical MO and molecular mechanics calculations.
