Abstract: Complexity and diversity in structures, properties, and applications are examined. Zigzag type conformation is also ubiquitous in 1D CPs. The construction of zigzag CPs stemmed from flexible exoditopic ligands and linear or cis-coordinated octahedral metal centers or tetrahedral metal ions. Infinite helical structural motif has special place in supramolecular chemistry because of its similarities in biological systems and enantioselective catalysis. Generally, utilization of flexible or chiral ligands is a facile approach to achieve helical CPs, while many successful examples of spontaneous chirality induction from achiral ligands also have been widespread in the literature. Conformationally flexible ligands are the key success of self-assembly of structural motifs, such as polycatenanes, helices, braids, Borromean rings and rotaxanes.
