Abstract: The miscibility of poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) with poly(p-methylstyrene-co-acrylonitrile) (pMSAN) of various compositions was studied by differential scanning calorimetry. PPO is miscible with pMSAN containing 2.7 and 5.0 wt% of acrylonitrile (AN) but immiscible for AN contents of 7.7, 13.6, 19.6 and 26.5 wt%. As compared with PPO/ poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile) blends, the miscibility of PPO/pMSAN blends is more susceptible to the incorporation of AN. Based on the phase behaviour, the segmental interaction parameter between phenylene oxide and AN segments was estimated as 0.96. © 1990.
