Abstract: The Single-Degree-Of-Freedom (SDOF) method is commonly used to estimate the dynamic response of structures subjected to blast loading. The limitation of this method is that it can only evaluate the flexural and shear response independently. In this paper, the rigid-plastic method, which allows both shear and flexural responses to be considered concurrently, is proposed for the analysis of steel-concrete-steel composite sandwich panel subjected to impulsive blast loading. The governing equations and the general approach of the rigidplastic method in deriving the different structural responses based on blast loading parameters, blast regimes, boundary and initial conditions are presented. The effectiveness of the rigidplastic method as compared to SDOF method and LS-DYNA Finite Element (FE) simulation is also demonstrated through a given example.
