|Abstract:||This paper describes the infrastructural development of commercial airports in Singapore since her early colonial days, and the planning philosophy involved and important development events that have taken place leading to the present day status of Singapore Changi Airport as a premier international air transportation hub in the Asia Pacific. The concept of planning ahead of demand, which is central to the overall planning and development of Singapore Changi Airport, is highlighted and illustrated with actual activities and projects in the airport. Also described is the airport design and management approach adopted by the airport authority to provide user-friendly facilities to meet passengers' expectation for a high level of service. The paper concludes by presenting the major future projects to be undertaken by the airport authority within the next ten years to ensure that the high standards in service and efficiency are maintained.|
