Abstract: The tensile properties of ultrafine-grained Mg-3%A1 alloy were investigated at different temperature. Bulk ultrafine-grained samples were synthesized by mechanical alloying (MA) for 10hrs and subsequent compaction and hot extrusion. The strain rate sensitivity and apparent activation volume at room temperature was investigated from repeated stress relaxation tests. Continuous stress dropped was observed with the increase of test temperatures, while a non-monotonic behavior of ductility measured by the % of RA (reduction of area) was exhibited in ultrafine-grained sample. Present experimental findings suggest that the deformation character at room temperature as well as at elevated temperatures is quite different from that of coarse grain counter part.
