Abstract: Evolutionary computing techniques are fast emerging as efficient approaches for various search, optimization and classification problems. Many recent works have reported application of evolutionary techniques to solve or aid the solution of various power system problems. The interest in this field has increased exponentially in the past few years. This paper surveys the recently published literature in the field of power systems. The paper gives a brief description of what problems evolutionary computing techniques have been used for, highlighting some common features and drawing out some key aspects of the methodology used.
