Abstract: In this paper, a composite control scheme using a synergy of PID and adaptive control is proposed. Adaptive control provides an adaptive feedforward control signal, while the PID provides feedback control for robustness against both parametric and non-parametric modeling errors. Conditions for the stability of the proposed control system are derived and provided in the paper. The control scheme developed is relevant to general nonlinear systems. In this paper, it is specifically implemented and demonstrated on a gyro mirror line-of-sight (LOS) system.
