Title: | Minislotted packet reservation multiple access protocol for integrated voice-data transmission | Authors: | Chua, S.T. Chua, K.C. Lye, K.M. |
Issue Date: | 1994 | Citation: | Chua, S.T., Chua, K.C., Lye, K.M. (1994). Minislotted packet reservation multiple access protocol for integrated voice-data transmission. Singapore ICCS - Conference Proceedings 1 : 320-323. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Packet Reservation Multiple Access (PRMA) is a reservation-ALOHA protocol proposed for third generation mobile telecommunication systems. However, in the event of a collision during access contention, an entire slot is wasted. We propose a minislotted PRMA protocol to overcome this disadvantage. We study its performance in an integrated voice and data traffic environment. The proposed protocol is shown to yield improvements over PRMA for both types of users at the expense of introducing small amounts of additional clipping to some talkspurts. In an ideal condition with only speech users, the proposed system supports 41 speech terminals with less than 1% packets dropped. In comparison, PRMA supports only 36 terminals under similar conditions. | Source Title: | Singapore ICCS - Conference Proceedings | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/72747 |
