Abstract: Problems associated with improper sensing of ground faults and unbalanced currents in an electrical system with multiple neutral-to-ground connections are reviewed. A special ground-fault sensing scheme is presented to overcome these problems. The system proposed is especially applicable in the case where an emergency standby generator backfeeds into a transformer and supplies its local load.
