Abstract: In this paper, we summarized the recent research at NUS on metamaterials with permittivity and permeability both being negative simultaneously. The techniques for estimating effective constitutive parameters are presented. Some extraordinary characteristics on metamaterials are shown by examples. Feasibility of fabricating low-loss metamaterials in the microwave spectrum is brought forth and numerically verified. © 2005 IEEE.
