Abstract: In this paper, we propose a novel optical notch filtering scheme, which can be used for optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring. OSNR monitoring for 10-Gb/s and 40-Gb/s NRZ-OOK, NRZ-DPSK and Duo-binary signals are demonstrated in VPI transmission maker 7.6. Low bandwidth photo detector adopted in the monitoring scheme would provide immunity to chromatic dispersion (CD) and low cost solution. © 2012 IEEE.
