Abstract: Simulation results of flux-enhanced giant magnetoresistance (GMR) head design were presented. Flux distribution was calculated using a two-dimensional finite element method. In the simulation, the shield to shield distance, free layer thickness, and GMR element height were assumed to be 90nm, 4nm, 100nm respectively. Results indicated that after optimization of parameters, the sensitivity of flux-enhanced GMR head could be increased by 40% as compared to conventional GMR head.
