Abstract: A modified lightning model was employed to determine the electromagnetic fields due to a tortuous lightning stroke path at near and far distances, both at ground and at height. Results indicate that for a tortuous lightning channel that does not deviate much from a straight path, the straight channel approximation is adequate and can be adopted conveniently.
