Abstract: An analytical formulation of the outage probability in terms of bit error rate specification for variable bit rate (VBR) multiclass services in a multi-code direct-sequence ultra-wideband (DS-UWB) system with Rake receivers and Gaussian monocycles is presented. The analytical framework is first formulated for a single class traffic with continuous transmission and then generalized for different traffic classes with different varying bit rates. Multiple spreading codes are used by each user to achieve the varying video bit rate. The analytical work leads to the determination of the system capacity admission region of a multi-code DS-UWB system supporting VBR services in an indoor multipath environment. Numerical results of the admission regions demonstrate the differential performances under different channel model scenarios. © 2006 IEEE.
