Abstract: The current developments and recent trends in drying were discussed. Some areas where more R&D is needed and which provide opportunities to make definitive contributions were identified. With the rapid advances in computer technology, material science, and our understanding of the underlying transport phenomena in drying of solids, there is scope for rapid development of more efficient drying technologies that could be deployed in both the developed and developing parts of world.
