Abstract: The transient and steady state behaviour of a semi-continuous counter-current adsorption unit, similar to the UOP "Sarex" process, for the separation of fructose-glucose mixtures has been simulated numerically and studied experimentally. Both transient and steady state concentration profiles are in good agreement with the predictions of a simple model in which the system is considered as a cascade of ideal theoretical stages, with the number of stages determined a priori from pulse chromatographic measurements. © 1986.
