Abstract: A numerical method to study the inelastic stability of rectangular reinforced concrete columns subjected to axial loads and end moments is presented. The method evaluates the ultimate strength of the column by obtaining the envelope of maximum moments asttainable at various sections of the column. In this analysis, the parabolic-plastic stress-strain relationship for concrete and the trilinear stress-strain relationship for steel with distinct plateau for tension and compression as recommended by CP110 are used. The design procedure based on CP110 when compared with the proposed analysis is found generally to be conservative for slender columns.
