Abstract: The paper deals with minimum-weight design of axisymmetric plates. The design is subject to restrictions imposed by static equilibrium conditions and various yield criteria governing the failure of the material. Herein, the optimization problem is formulated as a dynamic programming problem and is solved. Such a formulation unifies the design procedure. The paper also discusses the dynamic programming approach. © 1984 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
